Crop totals testify to farmers' endurance

It appeared, in many ways, a year to forget for Fresno County farmers. Drought, fallow land and continuing battles over environmental regulations appeared to be the ingredients of disaster.
But the numbers are in for 2009 and, for the third straight year, Fresno County produced more than $5 billion in crops.
"I don't know how ag did it, but they did," Fresno County Agricultural Commissioner Carol Hafner told the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday.
